CHOCOLATE SMOOTHIE

Who doesn’t love chocolate? Who sparingly eats a little piece after a weekend meal as a treat? Not any more! While it may seem naughty to indulge in a chocolate milkshake for breakfast or in the afternoon when your children are starving, this one is totally healthy. As proof, I’ve included veggies and superfoods to knock this chocolate smoothie out of the ballpark! So no more complaints from the kiddies, sneak in some cauliflower or whatever veggies you have on hand, and give them this delicious healthy chocolate milkshake. If veggies aren’t to your taste in a chocolate smoothie (even though I promise you won’t taste them), use berries instead. Other options I’ve included, are a superfood called mesquite whose flavour is caramel in taste, or hazelnuts for nutella fans.

Health benefits –

·       Raw, powdered cacao is a natural antioxidant, rich in magnesium, a good source of sulphur that helps produce strong nails, shiny hair and a healthy liver and pancreas.

·       Mesquite powder is full of protein, and has a sweet distinctive caramel taste.

CHOCOLATE SMOOTHIE

2-3 frozen bananas

¼ avocado, to make it creamy

1 cup frozen veggies – like cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, and peas

OR 1 cup frozen berries – blueberries, raspberries, strawberries

3-4 tablespoons cacao powder

2 Medjool dates

4-5 unsalted hazelnuts nuts (for a nutella flavour option)

2 teaspoons mesquite powder (as a caramel option)

2 cups milk – nut, seed, rice

rice malt syrup, to taste

cacao nibs, fruit and coconut flakes to decorate

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into bowls or glasses and decorate with cacao nibs, fruit, coconut and rawnola.

Enjoy!

CHOCOLATE NICECREAM

4 frozen bananas

3-4 tablespoons cacao powder

2 teaspoons mesquite powder

2 Medjool dates

rice malt syrup, to taste

¼ cup milk

Combine all ingredients in a high-speed blender and alternate pulses with pushing down the mixture with the stick until just smooth (don't over blend or the mixture will start to melt). Spoon into bowls, decorate with fruit, coconut, rawnola and other toppings and eat immediately. Or pour into a container and freeze for a few hours until serving as a dessert.

Enjoy!
